Perfume is one of the most personal gifts you can give, which is exactly why it can feel risky. These steps take the guesswork out.
Look for clues
Notice what they already wear. Is their current scent fresh and clean, warm and spicy, or sweet? Check their dressing table if you can, or ask a friend. Their style is a clue too: minimal dressers often like clean, fresh scents, while those who love bold fashion may enjoy richer perfumes.
Match the occasion
For daily wear, choose something easy such as citrus, aquatic or a soft floral. For weddings and festivals, a richer amber, oud or floral feels celebratory.
Choose a crowd-pleasing family
If you are unsure, fresh citrus, clean musk and soft florals are widely loved. Very polarising notes such as heavy oud or intense gourmand are better when you know their taste.
Consider a gift set or discovery set
Gift sets look special and often include complementary products. Discovery sets let the recipient try several scents and choose their favourite, a thoughtful option when you really are not sure.
Size matters
A 50 ml bottle is a safe choice for a new scent; 100 ml makes sense when you know they love the style.
